My first injection

Wed was a HUGE day for our family. Besides Emily starting school and me going back to work, we had a nurse come by to teach me how to give myself my injections. She arrived around 6:30 and believe me, I was already worn out by this point. She explained the situation and steps and allowed me to practice on an orange a few times. I was really apprehensive about giving myself a shot. I can get shots, IVs and epidurals all day long, but me give myself on..that's a whole nother ball game. She recommended I try using an ice pack to numb the area if I was having such strong doubts....so after the ice pack was nearly melting off my leg (ya, that's how long I sat there not wanting to do it) I finally decided that I had better man up. I had to do this. I removed the ice pack, sanitized, and steadily injected myself in my upper right thigh. You know, after all that, it wasn't that bad after all. It was a psycological thing. I know they will get easier with time, that I have to look forward to.

Now the negative part....The injection has possible side effects, as do all medications. This particular drug causes flu like symptoms..let me tell you, they aren't kidding!! I was awaken at 2:00 that morning with chills, fever and achiness so bad, I could have sworn I was run over by an 18 wheeler. It was terrible. Needless to say I didn't get much sleep, which made for a bad day on Thurs. Last night was also terrible and I went to bed very early. Today, I am feeling much better. It is more like I am sore from working out way too much. This reaction is supposed to happen every time I take my injection which is once a week...oh goody! Hey, I would rather feel like this, if it prevents me from being debilitated one day. Choose your battles.
